Man nearly drowns in waters fronting Sheraton Waikiki

A 63-year-old man was in critical condition today following a near-drowning incident in waters fronting the Sheraton-Waikiki Hotel.

According to an Emergency Medical Services report, the man had been surfing at the “Paradise” surf spot.

It is not known what prompted the rescue, but fellow surfers and the crew of a catamaran brought the man to shore about 4:50 p.m.

Lifeguards from the nearest lifeguard station 600 yards away performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

The man was transported to a hospital in critical condition, according to Emergency Medical Services.
