If your plans for Sunday night include hosting an Oscars-viewing party or getting cozy on the couch to watch the glitzy Hollywood awards show, you’d better set your DVR: For the first time, KITV will be airing the Academy Awards ceremony live in the afternoon with no repeat showing later that evening.
It’s become too difficult for local viewers to avoid news alerts and “spoilers” on social media revealing the results, so the live broadcast was the right thing to do, said Jan Dawson, KITV program manager.
The 88th annual Academy Awards is scheduled to air on the Hawaii ABC affiliate from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday and will be followed by “On the Red Carpet After the Oscars” at 7 p.m. and “Jimmy Kimmel Live: After the Oscars” at 8:30 p.m.
If you want to make a full day of it, ABC will broadcast “On the Red Carpet at the Oscars” at noon Sunday and “Oscars Opening Ceremony: Live from the Red Carpet” at 2 p.m. The E! network starts its “Countdown to the Red Carpet” at 10:30 a.m.
