Firefighters rescuing injured hiker on trail above Pearl City
The Honolulu Fire Department responded to a 1:46 p.m. call today for an injured hiker on the Manana Trail above the Pacific Palisades subdivision of Pearl City.
A helicopter and 15 personnel have been deployed, said HFD spokesman Kendall Ching.
Ching said that a rescue company will determine whether the helicopter will be used to bring the person off the trail.
He said the rescue at 2:22 p.m. was ongoing, and details were not available at that time.
The trailhead is located near 2595 Komo Mai Drive.

Lost or stranded hikers, I agree. Injured? Not so much.
First responders are already paid government workers to rescue people. There is no additional cost to the taxpayers to have the responders rescue injured people regardless whether a house fire or a mountain.

Fee collecting box at the entrance of the hiking trail. If a soda can can be charged a fee, so can a hiking trail.
