President Barack Obama spent the first day of the new year much as he did several of the previous 13 days of his annual Hawaii vacation: playing golf and dining in Waikiki.
The day started with a morning round of golf at the Kaneohe Klipper golf course on Marine Corps Base Hawaii with White House aide Marvin Nicholson and childhood friends Bobby Titcomb and Mike Ramos.
The presidential motorcade returned to the Obamas’ vacation rental in Kailua at about 2:30 p.m., greeted by a group of people who waved and took pictures near the entrance to the subdivision.
Later, the president and first lady Michelle Obama headed to Waikiki to spend their final night in Honolulu dining at Orchids restaurant at the Halekulani Hotel.
The first family is scheduled to depart Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam for Washington, D.C., today.
