With a new year comes new menu items, wine classes and more. Below are a few selections.
>> Try something new: Tommy Bahama Waikiki has some new brunch offerings. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays diners can wake up to a Kurobuta Pork Belly Loco Moco, Myers’s Rum Bananas Foster French Toast and more, with items priced between $8 and $19. The restaurant is located at 298 Beach Walk Drive. Validated parking is available in the Bank of Hawaii building at 2155 Kalakaua Ave. (enter from Beach Walk Drive) and the Hilton Hokulani valet at 2181 Kalakaua Ave. (entrance is located just below First Hawaiian Bank/Quiksilver on Kalakaua Avenue). >> All about wine: Vino restaurant’s Wine 101 class will provide participants with knowledge while tantalizing their taste buds in a fun environment. The first class will focus on “understanding the different nuances of Chardonnay.” It will also cover “what is ‘good’ wine” and touch on different grape varieties, wine values and the pairing of wine and food. Class begins at 4:30 p.m. Jan. 10 at Vino in Waterfront Plaza. Cost is $25 and includes 1 1/2 ounces each of eight different wines. Students receive a 25 percent discount on the restaurant’s regular menu from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. (immediately after class).
Also at Vino, Master Sommelier Chuck Furuya is holding “A Taste of Californian Pinot Noir” at 6 p.m. Thursday. The lineup includes 2010 Semper Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast, 2013 CF Pinot Noir Santa Maria Valley, 2012 Neyers Pinot Noir Robert’s Road, 2011 Sandhi Pinot Noir Tempest and 2011 Domaine de la Cote Pinot Noir Bloom’s Field. >> Party all the time: Kapolei Lofts and Street Grindz will hold an Eat the Street block party from 1 to 6 p.m. Jan. 9 at 761 Wakea St. The fun will take place along Kuou Street between Manawai and Wakea streets with parking available along Manawai Street and at Cole Academy, Hookele Elementary School and Kapolei Regional Park. The event includes free keiki activities, entertainment by John Yamasato, Blaine Asing and Young Han, and more.
