UCLA senior kicker Kaimi Fairbairn became the Pac-12’s all-time leading scorer when he made a 22-yard field goal in the first quarter of a 31-27 loss to Washington State on Saturday.
Fairbairn added another 22-yard field goal and made two from 38 yards to bring his career points total to 402, breaking the record of 390 that stood for 20 years.
Fairbairn has made 19 of his past 20 field-goal kicks and 40 straight from 35 yards and in. He also converted his only extra-point attempt against the Cougars, who became the first team in 32 tries to beat a Jim Mora-coached UCLA team after trailing at halftime.
3 from Hawaii makes All-NWC first team
Pacific (Ore.) teammates Bronson Barretto and Trey Kodama, who both graduated from Kamehameha in 2012, and Linfield (Ore.) senior Keanu Yamamoto were named to the All-Northwest Conference first team on Monday.
Barretto established six new school records this season, including 15 total touchdowns and 1,747 all-purpose yards as the team’s starting running back.
In 10 games, he rushed for 745 yards and 13 touchdowns and averaged 4.9 yards per carry.
Kodama made 54 tackles with eight for a loss and five sacks as a starting linebacker for the Boxers, who finished the season 6-4 after losing 38-20 to Puget Sound on Saturday.
Yamamoto, a 2012 Hawaii Prep alumnus, started all nine games at defensive back for the undefeated Wildcats, who will host Whitworth (Wash.) in the first round of the NCAA Division III playoffs on Saturday.
He had 32 tackles, with six going for a loss, a sack and two interceptions.
Pacific (Ore.) quarterback Warner Shaw (Kamehameha-Hawaii ’12) and offensive lineman Nicholas Schilla (Punahou ’12) made the second team and were joined by Linfield (Ore.) linebacker Eli Biondine (Saint Louis ’12).
Shaw completed 65.8 percent (187-for-284) of his passes for 2,395 yards and 23 touchdowns with only six picks this season.
Biondine finished this season with 36 tackles, with four for a loss, a sack and two forced fumbles.
Lewis & Clark freshman Alfred Maka Ah Loo (Kapaa ’15) earned honorable mention honors.
Matas is top defender in PacWest
Notre Dame de Namur senior Tyler Matas, a 2012 Mililani graduate, was named the PacWest defender of the year last Wednesday.
Matas led an Argonauts defense that finished third in the conference allowing only 15 goals in 18 games. Matas led NDNU with five assists with four coming in a win over Holy Names, which was the most in any NCAA Division II game this season.
Teammate Jack Ewert (Pacific Buddhist Academy ’12) was named to the All-PWC second team after making the third team last season.
Ewert led the team with nine goals and 21 points with four of those goals game-winners.

» Michaela Yamashita, Maryknoll ’14: The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (N.Y.) sophomore was named the Liberty League women’s swimmer of the week last Monday. Yamashita won the 100 butterfly event at the New England Invitational that featured nine schools and 34 other swimmers in the event. She finished with a time of 1:00.33 and also helped the 200 medley relay team to a victory, swimming the third leg. She was also sixth out of 44 in the 50 fly (27.60 seconds).
» Beth Tsuha, Hilo ’13: The Grinnell College (Iowa) junior won three individual events in a dual-meet win over Monmouth College on Saturday. Tsuha finished first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.57), 50 freestyle (25.25) and 500 freestyle (5:22.53).
