Rainbow Wahine rout UH Hilo in exhibition
Ashleigh Karaitiana scored a game-high 14 points to lead the University of Hawaii women’s basketball team to an 86-39 win over UH Hilo in an exhibition game tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Karaitiana also contributed eight rebounds and four assists and sophomore center Megan Huff added 11 points on 4-for-4 shooting from the floor. Guard Marissa Wimbley hit two of UH’s seven 3-pointers and finished with 10 points.
All 12 players on UH’s active roster played at least 11 minutes and each scored at least four points. Freshman twins Lahni and Leah Salanoa both scored seven points on a combined 6-for-7 shooting.
Lauren Hong hit three 3-pointers for UH Hilo and led the Division II Vulcans with 11 points.
UH shot 53 percent from the field while holding the Vulcans to 22.6 percent and outrebounded UH Hilo 50-28.
The Rainbow Wahine open the regular season on the road against Grand Canyon on Nov. 13.
