Senior midfielder Lukas Pousset scored three goals and assisted on another as the Chaminade men’s soccer team defeated Holy Names University 5-1 in a Pacific West Conference match Monday at Saint Louis Field.
Pousset’s hat trick was the first in the 10-year history of men’s soccer at Chaminade, and his seven points are the most ever in a single match. The five goals also broke the team-record for goals (4) in a PacWest game, set in 2009.
Guilherme Aires and Cameron Heen also scored for Chaminade (1-10, 1-7 PacWest), which gave interim coach Danny O’Regan his first-ever collegiate win. The Hawks fell to 2-9-1 and 1-5-1.
» Erik Kemsies assisted on two goals as the Hawaii Pacific men defeated Dominican (Calif.) 3-1 at Waipio. The Sharks (7-4-1, 5-2-1 PacWest) got goals from Javier Risco Garcia (15th minute), Josch Cuerten (33rd) and Sven Koenig (61st). The Penguins (1-12, 1-7) got their goal on Cory Vanderpool’s penalty kick in the 83rd minute.
Romo, Mercado lift HPU women soccer
Sara Romo scored two goals and Noelle Mercado scored and assisted on goals to lift the Hawaii Pacific women’s soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Dominican (Calif.) in a PacWest Conference match at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Park on Monday.
Romo scored in the 29th and 69th minutes and Mercado scored in the 65th for the Sharks (6-7, 3-5 PacWest). The Penguins (4-8-1, 4-4) received a goal in the waning seconds from Kayla Karlsson.
» Holy Names defeated the Chaminade women 3-1 at Saint Louis Field. The Silverswords (1-11, 0-8 PacWest) snapped a 10-match scoreless streak when Lauren Uehara headed in a Mary-Lynn Johannes cross in the 84th minute. Harlie Valentine scored two goals for the Hawks (4-7, 2-5).
UHH’S Dixon named top defender of week
University of Hawaii Hilo junior goalkeeper Cassidy Dixon has been selected the PacWest Defender of the Week after earning his first two shutouts of the year.
Dixon made a career-high 10 saves in an overtime victory over Brigham Young-Hawaii and had two saves in a 3-0 win over Dominican.
