Meghan Cooley and Breanna Gaddis scored one goal each to lead HPU past Wheeling Jesuit University 2-1 at Atherton Field.
The Sharks will play their next match in Hilo, where they face Simon Fraser University on Sept. 12.

HPU men’s soccer drops season opener
>>The HPU men’s soccer team dropped a 2-1 heartbreaker in overtime to Northwest Nazarene University (Idaho) in its season opener. Sophomore Divin Fula Lazolo scored an equalizer for the Sharks at the 54:35 mark. Julio Castillo scored the golden goal for the Crusaders in overtime at the 91:06 mark.
Chaminade wins both volleyball contests
>> The Chaminade volleyball team upset No. 12 Sonoma State in four sets, 26-24, 16-25, 25-17, 25-18. Leading the way for the Silverswords was Keani Passi with 15 kills and Natashya Enos with 21 assists.
In their second match of the day, the Silverswords rallied to beat Humboldt State in four sets, 22-25, 25-24, 26-24, 25-22. Passi guided the Silverswords to victory again, leading the team with 13 kills and two service aces.

>> Hawaii Pacific swept Saint Martin’s (Wa.) 25-18, 25-20, 25-17 in the first of two matches on Saturday. Sharks senior outside hitter Elizabeth Culpepper led the way with eight kills. The Sharks lost to Simon Fraser in four sets, 27-25, 25-15, 25-27, 26-24, in the second match.
