Hu Honua Bioenergy Facility scores top spot
HILO >> The Hu Honua Bioenergy Facility in Pepeekeo has received the top ranking among other renewable energy projects in the state.
The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reports the list released by the Hawaii State Energy Office ranks 45 of the state’s top clean energy leaders.
The energy leaders are selected based on their size, status of permitting, status of power or fuel purchase agreements and site control.
Hu Honua’s top ranking comes after years of setbacks that the facility has struggled with to maintain progress over the years. The most recent was a labor dispute with a contractor that was settled in December.
Other Big Island projects on the list include the Lalamilo Wind Farm Repowering Project, Big Island Beef Community Wind Project and Aina Koa Pono Kau Renewable Fuel Facility.
