MADISON, Wis. » A Wisconsin judge is set to decide Monday afternoon whether to move the cases of two 13-year-old girls charged with stabbing a classmate to please online horror character Slender Man into juvenile court.

The girls currently face one count each of attempted first-degree homicide in adult court. If convicted as adults, they would get up to 65 years in the prison system. In the juvenile system, they could be held only for five years.

The girls’ attorneys argue their clients would get better mental health treatment in the juvenile system and trying them in adult court amounts to cruel and unusual punishment.

Prosecutors counter moving the cases to juvenile court would depreciate the crime’s seriousness.

Waukesha County Circuit Judge Michael Bohren is overseeing the cases.
