The city Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death of a 74-year-old visitor from China who was found face down in the lagoon at Hilton Hawaiian Village on Tuesday afternoon.
The Medical Examiner’s Office on Wednesday identified the man as Xilin Ou of Beijing.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services said beachgoers found the man at about 11:45 a.m. and brought him to shore, where CPR was initiated by beachgoers. Lifeguards arrived at the scene by rescue watercraft and took over CPR until paramedics arrived, who continued advanced lifesaving treatment before taking the man to an emergency room. The man died at the hospital, the Medical Examiner’s Office reported.
2 inmates missing after furlough captured
Two Oahu Community Correctional Center inmates were captured Tuesday after failing to return from work furloughs, police said.
Robert Balanza, who did not return from a one-day work furlough July 4, was arrested Tuesday afternoon near Chinatown. Balanza, 50, left the Laumaka Work Furlough Center on the morning of July 4 and was supposed to come back in the afternoon.
Balanza was serving time for various drug charges. His next parole hearing was scheduled for November.
Besides being booked for second-degree escape, he also was arrested on several drug charges.
The other work furlough inmate, Barry Williams, 33, had three hours of freedom Tuesday night after work.
Williams left OCCC Tuesday morning and failed to return by the designated 6:30 p.m. to OCCC’s Module 20.
Within hours police found and arrested Williams, according to a 9:40 p.m. news release issued by the Department of Public Safety.
Williams was serving time for promotion of a detrimental drug, and was scheduled for a parole hearing in August.
He is facing a second-degree escape charge, the public safety department said.
Williams is classified as community custody, the lowest custody level, the department said.
