Three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash that occurred on Kuhio Highway in Kilauea on Monday.

Shortly after noon, a Chevy sport utility vehicle driven by a 34-year-old man was traveling northbound on the highway, south of Kalihiwai Bridge, when the vehicle crossed the center line and struck an oncoming Chevy pickup truck driven by a 45-year-old woman, police said.

Firefighters extricated the SUV driver from his vehicle. He was transported to Wilcox Hospital in serious condition.

The pickup driver and her passenger, 44, who are both from Lihue,  were also transported to the same hospital in stable condition.

Police closed the highway in both directions to conduct an investigation. Lanes reopened at about 4:20 p.m.
