Cebu Pacific Air, the Philippines’ largest discount carrier, plans to fly to Honolulu and Guam by the end of this year, according to news reports out of that country. The airline, which has been eyeing Hawaii for at least three years, said earlier this week it is awaiting regulatory approval and still needs to obtain the necessary airport slots. Cebu Pacific made the announcement following a meeting with Philippine Consulate General to Honolulu Gina A. Jamoralin, the reports said.
Cebu Pacific will compete on the Manila-Honolulu route with Philippine Airlines. Hawaiian Airlines dropped Manila service on Aug. 1, 2013.
