Police release man arrested in death of brother
Sean Kamaiopili, who had been arrested in connection with the death of his brother after an alleged gloves-on boxing match in Waimanalo over the weekend, has been released pending investigation.
Police did not say when Kamaiopili was released, but Nick Kamaiopili, who is Kamaiopili’s nephew and the victim’s son, said his uncle was released Tuesday morning.
Police said Sean Kamaiopili, 46, and a 52-year-old man were in a physical confrontation at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The older man was taken to the hospital, where he died.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim Tuesday as Randolph Kamaiopili of Waimanalo and said the results of an autopsy were pending.
Sean Kamaiopili’s son Sean Kamaiopili Jr. said his father and uncle were boxing with gloves in the front yard to resolve a dispute. He said his father landed two punches and his uncle landed one. His uncle eventually lost consciousness and was taken to the hospital.
Police arrested Sean Kamaiopili at Castle Medical Center on Saturday night for investigation of first-degree assault and later opened a second-degree murder investigation after Randolph Kamaiopili died Sunday morning.
