Firefighter stabbed at Enchanted Lake home by possible burglar


A 38-year-old man was taken to the hospital in serious condition after he was stabbed in the stomach about 8:40 a.m. in the 1000 block of Kahili St., according to an Emergency Medical Services report.

Police were looking for a suspect in a stabbing Tuesday morning in what may have been an interrupted burglary in Enchanted Lake.

Honolulu firefighter Christopher Takayama, 38, was taken to the hospital in serious condition after he was stabbed in the stomach about 8:40 a.m. in the 1000 block of Kahili St., according to an Emergency Medical Services report.

Capt. David Jenkins said Takayama was injured after returning home from a 24-hour shift. 

He said firefighters and Emergency Medical Services responded and provided medical treatment to him. 

Jenkins said Takayama, a suppression firefighter based on the Windward side, has responded to similar calls himself as a firefighter for the past 14 years. 

“Our thoughts and prayers are with firefighter Takayama in his difficult time ,” Jenkins said. “We wish for a speedy recovery.”

Keolu and Enchanted Lake elementery schools were briefly placed on lockdown from about 9:30 a.m. while police searched for the suspect. 

Police said accorrding to an initial report the victim came home and was stabbed by someone in a mask, who fled the scene.
