Crews extinguish brush fire behind Waipahu Intermediate

About five acres of brush behind Waipahu Intermediate were burned on Saturday.

Fire crews put out a brush fire Saturday on the periphery of Waipahu Intermediate School.

Firefighters responded to the blaze at 1:52 p.m. near 94-336 Pupuole St., a spokesman said.

The first HFD unit arrived at 2:02 p.m. to find brush and other vegetation on fire behind the school. 

Using hoses and hand tools, crews contained the fire at 3:42 p.m., said Capt. David Jenkins.

About five acres of brush was burned. No structures were damaged, no injuries were reported and no evacuations were necessary, he said.
