Moanalua Gardens to start charging admission
Moanalua Gardens will soon start charging admission to help offset maintenance and operational costs and help fund improvements to the park.
Starting April 15, non-Hawaii residents will be charged $3 per person and residents and military personnel will be charged $1. Children 12 and under will remain free.
"Stewardship of Moanalua Gardens is a responsibility that I have taken seriously since assuming ownership of the Gardens in 2007," owner John P. Damon said in a news release.
"I have absorbed the ongoing cost of keeping the park open to the public and have implemented several measures to try to raise funds to help underwrite park operations. Unfortunately, these efforts have not raised sufficient revenue, and the Gardens have been operating at a loss over the last seven years."
