Ex-con charged with wounding man with shotgun faces hearing
A 44-year-old convicted felon who allegedly fired a sawed-off shotgun at a 33-year-old man is scheduled to appear in Honolulu District Court for a preliminary hearing Wednesday on attempted murder and firearm charges.
Prosecutors charged Peter Picanco Sr. of Waikane on Friday with the attempted second-degree murder of Shaun Paulo. His bail was confirmed Monday at $250,000 at his initial court appearance.
Picanco was arrested Jan. 22 for the alleged attempted murder Dec. 20.
On Dec. 20, responding police officers found a pool of blood at the front door and at the scene of the shooting at the 48-197 Waiahole Valley Road home.
Victim Shaun Paulo, Nadia Bilermo, Maile Ebright and the alleged shooter Peter Picanco Sr. had gathered there when the shooting occurred at 1:20 a.m. Dec. 20.
The four were sitting at the kitchen table, on which Picanco had placed a brown and beige long gun, Bilermo told police.

Police recovered the sawed-off shotgun and four shotgun shells.
Picanco made his initial court appearance Monday.
Picanco has a history of felony convictions dating from 1993 to 2000, including second-degree robbery, auto theft, owning prohibited weapons and drug charges.
