The city Medical Examiner’s Office has identified a man who died in a car fire on the H-3 freeway earlier this month and a man whose body was recovered from the Kapalama Canal on Wednesday.
The medical examiner said Friday the 26-year-old man whose body was found at Kapalama Canal was Starsky Nakamura of Honolulu.
Firefighters recovered Nakamura’s body just before 8:30 a.m. under the bridge at Halona and Kohou streets.
The cause of death is pending further tests. Police classified the case as an unattended death pending the results of the autopsy.
The medical examiner Friday also identified the 36-year-old man who was killed in a car fire Jan. 7 as Darren Iese of Hauula.
Iese was driving a truck that caught on fire at 4 a.m. Jan. 7 in the Kaneohe-bound lanes of the H-3 freeway near the Hawaiian Cement plant.
When firefighters arrived the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters discovered the badly burned body after extinguishing the flames.
The cause of Iese’s death has been deferred, pending further tests.
