Maui man charged in 2014 crash that killed bicyclist
WAILUKU » A 29-year-old Maui man has been charged with negligent homicide in the 2014 death of a bicyclist.
The Maui News reports that 29-year-old Michael Cattaneo is also charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs and driving without vehicle insurance.
Cattaneo is jailed at Maui Community Correctional Center with bail set at $100,000.
Maui police say Cattaneo just after 1 p.m. April 12 was driving a pickup on Piilani Highway north of Kanani Road.
Police say Cattaneo was traveling north and drifted into the bicycle lane.
Police say the pickup struck 61-year-old bicyclist Karl Hagen of Wailea, who also was northbound. Hagen died of his injuries.
Acting Lt. William Hankins says vehicle homicide investigators spent hundreds of hours reconstructing the crash.
