Strong earthquake strikes off Vanuatu
A preliminary magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck off Port-Vila, Vanuatu Thursday evening but does not pose a tsunami threat to Hawaii, according to officials at the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
The temblor struck at 5:47 p.m. Hawaii time 52 miles north-northeast of Port-Vila at a depth of 135 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
No injuries were immediately reported.
