A 51-year-old woman was critically injured and a 53-year-old man was in serious condition after a crash on Kamehameha Highway in Kahaluu Wednesday night.

Honolulu police said the man lost control of his vehicle, which went up a grass embankment and hit a utility pole at about 11:45 p.m.

The Honolulu Fire Department extricated both the driver and the woman passenger from the vehicle, before paramedics took them to the hospital. Both are Kaaawa residents.

Police said speed and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors in the crash.
