Lusitana Street closed after sofa fire
Seven people — five adults and two children — escaped injury when a sofa on the second story of a Punchbowl house caught fire Monday morning.
The fire broke out at about 8:20 a.m. on the 1600 block of Lusitana Street.
Heavy smoke was coming from the second-floor room, where the sofa was located, when five fire companies arrived. Firefighters contained the fire to the second floor, and it was extinguished at 8:32 a.m.
Police closed Lusitana Street between School and Puowaina streets while firefighters battled the fire. It reopened by 9:30 a.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
