7 people escape from apartment fire in Punchbowl area
Seven people — five adults and two children — escaped injury when a sofa on the second story of a Punchbowl house caught fire Monday morning.
The fire broke out at about 8:20 a.m. in the 1600 block of Lusitana Street.
Heavy smoke was coming from the second floor room, where the sofa was located, when five fire companies arrived. Firefighters contained the fire to the second floor and it was extinguished at 8:32 a.m.
Police closed Lusitana Street between School and Puowaina streets while firefighters battled the fire. It reopened by 9:30 a.m.
