Award-winning film follows yogi’s life
An award-winning documentary titled "AWAKE: the Life of Yogananda" will be screened Friday at Kahala Theatres.
The CounterPoint Films production previewed this summer at the Maui Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award for "Spirit in Cinema."
The lifelong mission of Yogananda, author of the spiritual classic "Autobiography of a Yogi," is to reveal the profound harmony among the world’s religions, according to a news release issued by the Honolulu Meditation Circle of Self-Realization Fellowship.
Yogananda’s yoga meditation teachings and commitment to promoting the underlying unity between original yoga and original Christianity continue today under the Self-Realization Fellowship, which he established in 1920.
There are more than 600 SRF temples and centers in 60 countries worldwide, the release said.
The Honolulu group conducts regularly scheduled services at its new location at Scout Hall, 42 Puiwa Road.
