Two women are in critical condition following separate accidents that occurred just after midnight on Farrington Highway.

A third incident, a gas leak, closed Farrington Highway in Waipahu for several hours.

The first accident occurred at 12:10 a.m. Thursday near Kapolei Shopping Center when a car hit a 51-year-old woman near the Kapolei Shopping Center.

Lt. Carlene Lau, a police Traffic Division spokeswoman, said the woman was in a hospital in critical condition.

Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the pedestrian accident, Lau said.

Police closed Farrington Highway until about 2 a.m. while they investigated the accident.

At 12:27 a.m., a  27-year-old woman fell out of a car driven by her boyfriend near Waianae High School.

An ambulance took the woman, a Waianae resident, to the hospital in critical condition, Lau said.

At about the same time, a gas leak closed town-bound lanes of Farrington Highway between Aniani Street and Waipahu Depot Road.

The road reopened by 6 a.m. Thursday as crews finished repairs.

On Wednesday, a 43-year-old Waipahu man died after his pickup truck rear-ended a city bus on Farrington Highway in Ko Olina.

The victim, the driver of the pickup truck, was pronounced dead at the scene at about 12:24 p.m., according to Emergency Medical Services.

Police said the bus was traveling toward Waianae on Farrington when it stopped to pick up a passenger and was struck from behind.

Police said a boy, a passenger on the bus, sustained minor injuries. He was treated at the scene, but was not transported to a hospital.

Police contraflowed the Waianae-bound lanes of Farrington Highway from 1 to 4 p.m. as Traffic Division officers investigated the crash.

This was the 52nd traffic death this year, compared with 49 at the same time last year.
