Firefighters extinguish brush fire behind transfer station

Firefighters worked to extinguish a fire behind the Honolulu Refuse Transfer Station on Thursday in Kalihi.

Five fire companies put out a brush fire Thursday behind a transfer station on Middle Street.

There are homeless camps in the area, said fire Capt. David Jenkins.

The Fire Department received the first call at 4:54 p.m.

The first company arrived at 5:08 p.m. and firefighters reported the fire was extinguished about 6 p.m.
