Strong quake off Easter Island poses no tsunami threat to Hawaii
A strong earthquake in the southeastern Pacific Ocean does not post a tsunami threat to Hawaii, Pacific Tsunami Warning Center officials said Wednesday.
The quake had a preliminary magnitude of 6.8 and struck at 4:15 p.m. Hawaii time 354 miles south-southwest of Hanga Roa on Chile’s Easter Island at a depth of 6.2 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
No injuries were immediately reported.
