Car fire triggers $200K blaze at Kailua-Kona townhouse
A Kailua-Kona townhouse fire, which began as a car fire Tuesday, resulted in $200,000 damage.
The fire, reported at 1:09 p.m., was contained to a single home in the six-unit townhouse at 78-6833 Alii Drive.
Firefighters arrived at 1:22 p.m. and brought the blaze under control at 2:03 p.m. It was extinguishd at 3:03 p.m.
The owner of Unit I-5 at Na Hale O Keauhou said she arrived home, parked her car in the carport below, and began to smell smoke a half hour later, the Fire Department said in a report.
She saw the car on fire, got out and called 911, the fire department said.
Firefighters arrived and found the carport and the second-floor bedroom located just above the carport fully engulfed in flames. The fire was spreading to the roof of the two-story building.

No one was injured in the fire.
