» The Red Sox promoted Steven Wright (Hawaii) on Aug. 17. He made an appearance that day, then was returned to Triple-A Pawtucket on Wednesday. The knuckleballer will likely be recalled on Sept. 1 when rosters expand.
» Phillies pitcher Jerome Williams (Waipahu) is scheduled to start Sunday against the Cardinals, which means he is likely to face starting second baseman Kolten Wong (Kamehameha-Hawaii, Hawaii) and could face reserve infielder Greg Garcia (Hawaii), who was recalled Wednesday for his second stint with the team. Williams has never faced either player in the major leagues.
» Lynchburg Hillcats pitcher Blair Walters (Hawaii) suffered his first loss of the season on Aug. 17 after winning his first four decisions. He gave up three runs in six innings in a loss to the Frederick Keys. Walters still has not given up more than three runs in any start this season.
» Though he was promoted to Class AA Jackson two weeks ago, first baseman Carlton Tanabe (Pearl City) was named Friday to the rookie Appalachian League’s all-star team. Tanabe hit .326 with 13 doubles in 39 games with Pulaski of the Appalachian League.
» The Charleston RiverDogs’ Kale Sumner (Kailua, Hawaii Pacific) hit a go-ahead grand slam on Aug. 16 in a 7-2 win over the Rome Braves.
