Johnson’s rushing carries Campbell by Castle
Campbell scored early in the game and cruised to a 35-13 win over host Castle in an OIA Division I football game on Friday.
It was the season opener for both teams and the No. 7 Sabers won behind a running game that generated three touchdowns.
Terell Johnson ran 11 times for 154 yards and a touchdown to lead the Sabers.
The Sabers struck just two minutes into the game. Austin May’s 25-yard touchdown run and Kona Reiny-Aloy’s PAT put Campbell up 7-0 with 9:52 left. Three minutes later, the Sabers scored again on Abiel Taito’s 34-yard pass to Jayce Bantolina. Reimy-Aloy’s kick made it 14-0. Taito, listed as a linebacker, completed five of seven attempts in the first quarter.
Micah Halemanu’s 19-yard interception return helped Castle cut the deficit to 14-6 with three minutes left in the second quarter. But Campbell responded right before halftime on two big plays.
Dylan Villanueva’s second interception of the game gave the ball back to Campbell with less than a minute remaining. On the next play, Johnson took the handoff from Taito, weaved toward the right, and scored on a 70-yard run to put the Sabers up 20-6 at halftime.
