An Oahu Community Correctional Center inmate, who has been on the loose for nearly a month, is back in custody after his arrest Friday night in Makiki.

Kristopher Shafer, 37, was supposed to report to the Laumaka Work Furlough Center on July 14. Officers arrested him for second-degree escape at 6:15 p.m. Friday on Wilder Avenue.

Shafer was serving time for a parole violation. He now faces up to five years added to his sentence for the escape charge.

Laumaka is a minimum security work furlough center for community custody inmates.  It is located a block away from OCCC.  Inmates assigned to Laumaka are either actively seeking employment or working in the community.
