Haleakala National Park set to reopen after Iselle leaves
Haleakala National Park will reopen Saturday afternoon after officials closed the park Thursday as Tropical Storm Iselle approached the islands.
The summit and Kipahulu Districts of the national park reopened Saturday afternoon after park crews assessed road, campground, and building conditions, and cleared downed trees and rock slides caused by the storm.
Visitors are advised that some areas of the park may close periodically for safety reasons if further rock slides or downed trees occur.
The park is monitoring Hurricane Julio and will determine if or when to close the park based on storm conditions. Call 808-572-4400, option 2, for the latest closure information. In case park phone lines are down visitors should also check the park’s Facebook page or website (www.nps.gov/hale).
