Kaluhiokalani gives up cross country job
Norman Kaluhiokalani will not coach the Brigham Young-Hawaii women’s cross country team for the first time in more than 40 years because of health concerns.
Kevin Schlag, who led the men’s team to the NCAA West regional last year, will add the women to his list of duties. The school announced in March that it would be phasing out athletics over the next three years.
Kaluhiokalani, who built the program in the 1970s, will remain on campus as a teacher.

Arakawa’s catch was the largest in HIBT history on 50-pound test line by a woman. It took Arakawa four hours to get the fish in the boat.
Olympian Dream Fishing Club has 1,029 points and leads the tournament after Day 2 of the five-day event. The tournament continues through Friday in Kailua-Kona.
