The Sullivan Center at ‘Iolani School, designed by architect Francis Oda, FAIA, of Group 70 International Inc., won the Eighth Annual People’s Choice award at the American Institute of Architects, Honolulu Chapter, 56th Annual Design Awards, recognizing architectural design excellence for 2014.

Nine examples of architectural design excellence have been honored by the American Institute of Architects, Honolulu Chapter.
Awards of Excellence were presented for Kauhale Kai and to Lavaflow 7, both of which are homes on Hawaii island.
The Kauhale Kai was designed by Mark de Reus of de Reus Architects Inc.
Craig Steely of Craig Steely Architecture was the architect for Lavaflow 7.
Awards of Merit were presented to four design projects.
Charles Kaneshiro of Group 70 International Inc. was honored for the design of new classroom buildings at Hawaii Baptist Academy High School; Lawrence Cunha of WCIT Architecture was awarded for his Andaz at Wailea designs; architect Maurice Kondo of INK ARCH LLC was cited for designing the Ka‘iwakiloumoku Hawaiian Cultural Center at Kamehameha Schools; and Craig Steely was honored for Lavaflow 5, a home on Hawaii island.
The University of Hawai‘i Cancer Center by architect Colin Shimokawa of Shimokawa + Nakamura received the Jack C. Lipman AIA Members’ Choice Award and the Mayor’s Choice Award: A Vision for a 21st Century Ahupua‘a.
The Eighth Annual People’s Choice Award was awarded to architect Francis Oda, FAIA, of Group 70 International Inc. for the Sullivan Center at ‘Iolani School.
Maluhia, a Kahala home by architect Geoffrey Lewis of Geoffrey Lewis Architect Inc., won the Hawaii Home + Remodeling Editor’s Choice Award.
Awards were presented July 23 at the Hawaii Prince Hotel & Golf Club.
