Hundreds welcome new library to Aiea

Sofia Hernandez-Saca, 5, got comfy in the children’s section of the new Aiea Public Library while her sister Sasha, 2, grabbed some reading material of her own. The girls accompanied their mom, Kelsy Hernandez-Saca, to check out the new location, which attracted hundreds of people as well as state officials when it finally opened Saturday.

Aiea Community Association President Claire Tamamoto and Aiea Public Library Manager Baron Baroza joined hundreds of people Saturday at the grand opening of the facility’s new location at the former Aiea Sugar Mill site.

Above, the $10.4 million location is nearly 7,000 square feet larger than its former site and sports environmentally friendly design elements and free Wi-Fi.

The library now resides at the old Aiea Sugar Mill site; it used to be on Moanalua Road.
