East shores under high-surf advisory
Eastern shores of most islands are under a high surf advisory until 6 p.m. Monday, the National Weather Service said Saturday.
Strengthening trade winds are expected to create an increase in short-period, choppy surf along east-facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and Hawaii island. Strong breaking waves and rip currents are also expected to make swimming difficult and dangerous, the weather service said.
Surf is predicted to be 5 to 8 feet overnight and 6 to 10 feet on Monday.
Beachgoers are advised to exercise caution and to follow advice from ocean safety officials.
