Kauai is Hawaii’s fastest growing county, census finds
Kauai County is the fastest-growing county in Hawaii, according to a report by the U.S. Census Bureau.
The island’s population rose 1.6 percent between July 1, 2012 and July 2013, according to a news release. Kauai County was followed by Maui County which saw 1.4 percent growth. Hawaii County’s population grew 1.2 percent and Honolulu saw .9 percent growth.
In terms of numbers, Honolulu topped the neighbor islands with an increase of 8,439 people. Hawaii County grew by 2,246 people while Maui County and Kauai County grew by 2,162 and 1,117 people respectively.
Honolulu is the most populated county in the state with 983,429 residents followed by Hawaii County and Maui County.
