Army Maj. Gen. Anthony Crutchfield, who has been chief of staff at U.S. Pacific Command since 2012, has been selected as its newest deputy commander at Camp Smith and will receive his third star, the Pentagon announced.
Crutchfield began his military career in 1982, after graduating from Marshall University.
Having assumed command of the 10th Aviation Brigade at Fort Drum, N.Y., in August 2003, he deployed to Afghanistan in command of Joint Task Force Falcon.
In June 2008 he served as director of Joint Center for Operational Analysis-Lessons Learned, U.S. Joint Forces Command. He served as commanding general of U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence and Fort Rucker, Ala., from August 2010 to August 2012.
The Pentagon also announced that Brig. Gen. Charles A. Flynn, who has been selected for the rank of major general, has been assigned as the new commanding general of the 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks.
Flynn is currently assistant deputy chief of staff for readiness at U.S. Army Forces Command, Fort Bragg, N.C.
A graduate of the University of Rhode Island, Flynn is former acting commanding general of the Army Combined Arms Center and Fort Leavenworth, Kan., and deputy commanding general of the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg.
His brother, Lt. Gen. Michael T. Flynn, is director of the Defense Intelligence Agency.
Also, Brig. Gen. John E. O’Neil, commandant of the U.S. Army Quartermaster School at Fort Lee, Va., has been assigned as director for logistics, engineering and security assistance at Pacific Command headquarters.
