LAS VEGAS >> A man has been arrested after Las Vegas firefighters say he set a fire in a recycling area of the Fremont Street Experience.

Fire officials say sprinklers helped keep the fire under control after it started about 3 a.m. Thursday at the Neonopolis mall downtown.

Authorities say nobody was injured and damage was confined to the trash bin area, although smoke did get into the Neonopolis complex for a short time.

Investigators who reviewed surveillance footage say the man who appeared to be starting the fire was familiar to security personnel and had been in the area before.

Firefighters say he returned to the Fremont Street Experience early in the morning Friday, and was arrested on suspicion of arson. He’s been identified as 59-year-old Elliott Dew.
