"HAWAII FIVE-0" regular Daniel Dae Kim handled himself exceptionally well in a lively, humorous interview by "CBS This Morning" co-hosts Charlie Rose, Norah O’Donnell and Gayle King Jan. 17. They had Daniel discuss becoming an actor, filming in Hawaii, becoming part of the community and collecting love letters, even those he received in elementary school. Daniel admitted to keeping every love letter he ever received and said those in elementary school were folded origami style and tossed to him. The messages read, "‘I hate you. Come talk to me after class,’" or "‘I know someone who likes you, come see me,’" Daniel said. He also said he wanted to be a lawyer but turned to acting in college. Daniel had an important role in "Lost" and a key role in "Five-0" and now feels like he is part of the community. Charlie asked him about motorcycles and Daniel said he had to learn to ride a bike on "Five-0" and now owns one — although years ago he promised his dad he would never ride them. Norah said that, as a youngster, she watched Jack Lord‘s "Five-0" with her parents, big fans. The interviewers thought it was cool when Daniel told them about the bust of Jack at Kahala Mall on which people often drape lei. Gayle, a close friend of Oprah Winfrey who has spent time at the star’s Hawaii home, brought up aloha shirts people wear here. She said, "I don’t want to call them goofy … " then quickly added, "colorful Hawaiian shirts and mismatched trousers. I was just in Hawaii and I love it." SOLD: The people who live at Kahala Beach Apartments hold their own "Antiques Road Show," a parody of the PBS program, each year to raise funds for charity. This year’s was held on Wednesday. Steve Langham was auctioneer. There was also a silent auction. Proceeds went to cancer research and a domestic abuse help group this year.
