BYUH women earn first win of year
Whitney Fieldsted scored 10 points and hit the game-winning basket as Brigham Young-Hawaii defeated Fresno Pacific 55-54 in a Pacific West Conference women’s basketball game on Saturday in Fresno, Calif.
Fieldsted’s jumper with 46 seconds remaining helped the Seasiders (1-12, 1-7) rally from a 14-point deficit. Brooke Vidmar missed a layup with two seconds left for the Sunbirds (3-11, 3-5). Brydgette Tatupu-Leopoldo and Talyn Bevell added 10 points each for BYUH.
» Ieva Nagy and Skye Savini scored 17 points each to help the Hawaii Pacific women hold off Dominican 79-78 in San Rafael, Calif. Shianne Solomon scored 15 points and Morganne Comstock had 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Sea Warriors (10-4, 6-2). Salonika Quewon-Owens had 23 points for the Penguins (2-14, 2-8).
» Kamie Imai scored 17 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Hawaii Hilo women to a 71-59 win over Notre Dame de Namur in Belmont, Calif. McKenzie Mangino added 14 points for Hilo (6-6, 5-3).
Jasmine Waiters led Notre Dame de Namur (3-12, 2-7) with 10 points.
» Britney Machado-Potestio and Renique Fitzpatrick scored 19 points each to lead Holy Names to a 89-64 win over Chaminade in Oakland, Calif. Shana Kawakami led Chaminade (2-12, 2-6) with 10 points. Sonia Aguilar added 17 points for the Hawks (9-6, 5-4).
» Pablo Coro hit six 3-pointers and finished with 21 points to lead the Brigham Young-Hawaii men to a 93-86 win over host Fresno Pacific. Jordan Ngatai scored 17 points and Scott Friel and Luke Aston added 12 points each for the Seasiders (7-7, 5-3). Jackson Carbajal led the Sunbirds (5-11, 0-8) with 25 points.
» Lee Bailey scored 28 points to help the Chaminade men beat host Holy Names 83-70. Kiran Shastri scored 12 points, Kuany Kuany scored 11, and Frankie Eteuati added 10 for the Silverswords (10-6, 7-1). Joshua Crum scored 17 points for Holy Names (4-13, 3-6).
