City Council committee defers bus advertising bill
A bill allowing the city to sell advertising on city buses was deferred by the City Council Budget Committee today.
Council members said given the opposition to Bill 69 from the Outdoor Circle and others to Mayor Kirk Caldwell’s plan, they want to see if money can be found elsewhere to make up for the up to $8 million that the administration projected could be earned by the plan.
Council Budget Chairwoman Ann Kobayashi said she will hold off further discussion on the bill until Caldwell submits his operating budget for the coming year in March.
Caldwell had proposed the money be used to restore bus service previously trimmed because of fiscal constraints, as well as new routes.
