Now in the giant economy size

About this time last year we were loving Hana­fuda Hawaii Style, a boxed collector’s version of the Japa­nese card game with new "local" designs replacing the traditional suits. Now the folks at Hana­fuda Hawaii are back with an "Extra Large Version" for $12. The cards are twice as large as standard hana­fuda cards — or about the same size as the more familiar Western-style playing cards used for poker and solitaire. Globes take images from a galaxy far, far away

This tennis-ball-size globe from Seattle’s Glass Eye Studio makes an elegant art piece or paperweight. It’s named after the Whirlpool Galaxy, 23 million light-years from Earth, and is part of the celestial series that features images of the moon, sun, planets and other stellar phenomena. They’re intricate enough to make you want to study each little section in detail while appreciating the entire image and wondering how it’s all done. Some have lighted bases to enhance the display. If you’re like me, you have a problem with buying a full-size bottle of nail polish that after only a couple of applications starts to thicken. Or you get tired of the color and begin to feel as if you just wasted $10. Cute is the color of critters for kids

Hippos, giraffes and elephants, oh my! These cute critters can be found at Tini Manini, a children’s boutique in Hale­iwa. The charming animals are made of colorful materials and don’t include buttons or other embellishments that could come loose and choke tykes who put everything into their mouths.
