Surf on the state’s north shores was expected to reach 10 to 15 feet Thursday night, peaking at 18 to 22 feet today.
The National Weather Service issued a high-surf advisory from 6 p.m. Thursday through 6 p.m. today for north and west shores of Oahu and Kauai County and north shores of Maui and Molokai.
Surf is expected to peak at 12 to 15 feet on west shores.
"Large breaking surf, significant shore break and dangerous currents make entering the water potentially deadly," forecasters said in an advisory message. "Boaters should be aware of an increased number of surfers and body boarders utilizing the harbor channel to access surfing areas. … Heed advice from ocean safety officials and exercise caution."
