KFVE-TV is being sold by Arlington, Va.-based MCG Capital Corp. to American Spirit Media LLC.
Under parent company Southeastern Media Holdings Inc., American Spirit Media and President and CEO Thomas Henson own, operate or have interests in six television stations in North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Iowa, Ohio and Mississippi.
The purchase price, which was unclear, includes KFVE-TV in Honolulu and its neighbor island sister-stations, KGMV-TV in Wailuku, KGMD-TV in Hilo and other assets. The neighbor island stations had been KGMB-TV sister-stations prior to the purchase of KGMB and the spinoff of KFVE by Alabama-based Raycom Media Inc.
The transaction is part of the $22 million paid by Hawaii News Now owner Raycom to MCG Capital as part of an October 2009 asset-exchange transaction.
Raycom owns KGMB and KHNL-TV in Honolulu, and the three stations operate under a shared services agreement involving combined news and other functions. The new KFVE owner plans to continue that relationship.
KFVE officials did not return calls seeking comment.
The application for transfer of control of the station’s license has been added to the station’s public file, as is required by law. The application also has been added, via online link, to the public file portion of the KFVE website.
Announcements of pending license transfers generally are required to be broadcast to alert any member of the public wishing to examine related documents or file an objection to the transfer.

Popeye’s expanding
A new Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen will open next month at 647 Kapahulu Ave., and it will be the fourth now operating in the islands, said franchisee Sean Uezu, a Popeye’s franchisee for some 30 years.
The exact opening date hasn’t yet been set.
Uezu said the new location will have 30 employees.
And yes, Popeye’s will be opening in a space formerly occupied by KFC.
It wasn’t vacant for long. "We took it up pretty much after the lease expired," Uezu said.
The new outlet may have longer hours of operation than say, its sister-restaurant at 1515 Dillingham Blvd. "because of the area, where the eateries are open later," he said.
The other Popeye’s restaurants on Oahu are at Waipahu Town Center at 94-050 Farrington Highway and the Mall at Pearl Harbor at 4725 Bougainville Drive, which is a food court location open to the general public.
Hawaii’s Popeye’s restaurants will soon be adding fresh, made-in-Hawaii desserts from Haute Confectionery Boutique.
Owner and baker Elizabeth Hata Watanabe has crafted single-serve New York-style cheesecake and whipped cream cheese-filled petit vin bundt cakes in grab-and-go containers that will be added to the menu in the coming weeks.
Because of the down-south, Louisiana vibe of the restaurant concept, Watanabe said she’d like to present Uezu with "more Southern-inspired things." A signature bread pudding is on the drawing board.
A Red Velvet petit vin will be the standard, "but I’ll also create seasonal flavors, like for Christmas I might do something with a peppermint filling, and for spring, lemon and carrot," Watanabe said.
