The Medical Examiner’s office said the skeletal human remains found between the Makapuu Lighthouse Trail and the shoreline two months ago were those of a man reported missing in January.

Edward Ghang Jr. was last heard from on Jan. 16, when he spoke to a friend on the phone.

A CrimeStoppers bulletin issued in January said Ghang was emotionally distraught and may have been in the Kapahulu area.

The cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head. The death was classified as a suicide.

Four hikers descending from the Makapuu Lighthouse trail discovered the skeletal remains near a cave along the cliff Sept. 15.
