4 people rescued from boat near Kewalo Basin
The Honolulu Fire Department rescued four people late Saturday night after their boat overturned near Kewalo Basin, a spokesman said Sunday.
The boat is still stuck on its side on a reef in the area.
Fire Capt. Tyler Chan said a rescue crew got the people safely to shore, where they were examined by paramedics, following the 9:15 p.m. call.
A spokesman for the Coast Guard Sector Honolulu said the owner of the boat hired a salvage company to attempt to salvage the boat. Salvage operations are expected to start today but as of noon, the boat was still floating in the water.
The Coast Guard is planning to remove six gallons of fuel on board the vessel.
