Panel will explore art-spirituality link
A panel discussion on "Art and Spirituality" will be held during a series of events at Kapiolani Community College Nov. 18 to 21 to recognize the 14th annual International Education Week.
Prajwal Ratna Vajrachariya, a Nepalese priest and master of a dance tradition, is coming to Hawaii to participate, a news release said. He will perform at noon Nov. 21 in the college’s Ohia Cafeteria, and join the "Art and Spirituality" discussion, which will follow at 1:45 p.m.
Other speakers taking part in the discussion include Kauila Clark, a Zen potter and Hawaiian kahu and kahuna; Elshikh Ismail, chief imam and muezzin (one who is appointed to conduct calls to prayer) of the Muslim Association of Hawaii; and Duane Preble, professor emeritus of art at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. KCC professors Robin Fujikawa and David Behlke will moderate the discussion about the connection between art and spirituality, and the place art can hold in shaping today’s world.
International Education Week is a joint initiative organized by the U.S. Department of Education and the state.
